About the Class
Turning Ornament Stands and Birds
The class will begin with a focus on making stands for decorative birdhouses and Christmas ornaments. We will go through the process of shaping the base on the lathe, securing a weight in it, and cutting the base at an angle on the bandsaw. Then, we will shape the brass rod that is used as a hanger for the stand.
For a second project, we will turn some birds on the lathe. We will start with a large bird, and time permitting, participants can scale down the project and make some smaller birds.
About the Artist
Biography
Delbert’s woodworking journey began in a middle school shop class over 50 years ago. Although he did some wood turning early on, for many years most of his focus was practical, making furniture and completing home improvement projects. In 2016, his focus became more creative. He began honing his wood turning skills. Then, his art gradually evolved from mostly making wood bowls to creating a diverse array of more unique items.
Delbert is a member of the Carolina Mountain Woodturners and the Tri-Cities Woodturners clubs. He is a member and on the Board of Directors of the Holston Mountain Artisans in Abingdon, Virginia, where his work is on display. Additionally, he has work displayed at the Johnson County Center for the Arts and he participates in regional art and craft shows.

In the event you cancel your registration before the cutoff, 100% of your payment will be credited to your member account. This credit may be used for any future club purpose. Cancellation after the cutoff will not be credited unless a member moves off the waitlist. No credit will provided for a “no-show”.
