Work Experience/ Training

1981 to Present

Michael Mocho Fine Woodworking- Self-employed woodworker producing a variety of original designs including sculptural containers, commissioned furniture, architectural elements, and speculative works for exhibition. Technical services include contract woodturning, custom furniture, architectural millwork, prototype development, and product fabrication. Instructor at the Santa Fe Community College Fine Woodworking Program since 1997.

1995-98 University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning- Albuquerque, NM.

Workshop Supervisor: Responsible for renovations and general operations of the workshop facility used by graduate and undergraduate students for models, furniture making, structural projects, and full sized mock-ups. Provided instruction in the safe and effective use of tools, taught furniture design class, and served as technical consultant to design studios, student reviews and thesis projects. Hired and supervised all shop assistants and student help, selected and maintained all equipment

1986 Robertson & Sons Violin Shop, Albuquerque, NM. Stringed Instrument Repairman: restoration and adjustment of violins, violas, cellos, basses, mandolins, guitars, etc.

1980-81 Federico Armijo Studio- Albuquerque, NM- Senior Craftsman- Production of one-of-a-kind furniture, carved doors, architectural woodwork, patterns for metal casting., and large-scale sculpture in wood, glass, metal and stone.

1979-80 Steve Madsen Studio, Albuquerque, NM- Production of one-of-a-kind studio furniture and small scale, very detailed containers of exotic materials for gallery and museum exhibitions.

1978-79 FiberDesigner Looms, Albuquerque, NM. Production of quality weaving equipment- floor looms, spinning wheels, and weaving accessories.

1976-78 Contemporary Designs in Wood, Albuquerque, NM- woodcarving, furniture, commercial casework,

1974-75 Bruno Industries Albuquerque, NM (part time)-antique restoration, furniture construction and repair
